On Monday 26th January, 480kgs of textiles was collected which raised £192 towards our fundraising efforts. Many thanks to everyone who donated.
Donation bags have been distributed via book bags week commencing 15th December. However if you didn’t receive your bag, you can still collect and donate via strong garbage bags. You can drop your donations between 7am – 9am on Monday 26th January to the top car park (under the gazebo provided). Please do not bring your donations to the school before or after this date. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Your donation can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, bags, soft toys. Please note bedding, curtains, and household linen cannot be accepted (refer to www.bag2school.com for full details). We will receive £400 per tonne*.
As well as raising funds for our school, it also helps the environment by helping to divert unwanted textiles away from landfill. A recent DEFRA report has shown that textile collection schemes are helping to reduce the volume of textiles discarded as municipal solid waste. However it is a fact that as a nation we still send 1,081,000 tonnes of textiles to landfill every year.
* NOTE FROM BAG2SCHOOL website:
UK textile prices have come under increasing pressure due to severe problems
with the main export markets. West Africa is affected by the outbreak of the Ebola virus whilst tensions in the Ukraine are having an impact on several Eastern European markets.
Combined with the strengthening pound sterling, prices have fallen by up to 25%.
Therefore with effect from the 1st September 2014, the price paid for all Bag2School collections will now be £400 per tonne.
